An Update with Some Exciting News
Dear Residents, Families, and Caregivers,
We hope you are continuing to stay healthy as we continue to navigate through these uncertain times.
Welcome Affinity Health Services
On July 1, our Board of Directors and staff welcomed Affinity Health Services to manage our skilled nursing facility. Affinity is a senior community management firm, and with them on board, we will have additional resources to manage the changing needs of our organization at this pivotal time.
Affinity has specialists that will work with JHEP in areas of resident care, inflection control, regulatory oversight, financial planning, marketing, customer service, human resources and strategic planning. COVID-19 has all healthcare entities reconsidering the way they conduct business and JHEP will be working through the evaluation of their policies, procedures and practices alongside an experienced management firm.
Affinity has been providing on-site consulting services at JHEP at various times, most recently during COVID-19, when they provided experts in helping us combat the pandemic. Several Affinity nurses have been on site since late March on a consistent basis and have grown to know both staff and residents. We look forward to welcoming the other consultants into our fold next week.
Over the course of the next few months, Affinity representatives will be in the community getting more familiar with our Home, and even though meeting them during this time presents challenges, we’re working on ways to connect our community with them, as they have a laser-focus on customer service and communication.
On Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2, several Affinity representatives will be at the JHEP. We’re hoping to set up a canopy in the upper parking lot so that you can swing by to meet Denise McQuown-Hatter, Affinity’s President and CEO, as well as some of her team and ask questions about them and their role. More importantly, they just want the opportunity to say hello. A separate notice will be sent next week with the exact plans for the meet and greet with the Affinity team.
We are very pleased to report that our testing of staff and residents was completed earlier this week. Out of the 290 persons tested, one resident and one staff member tested positive, even though they have experienced no symptoms. The resident is in quarantine and the staff member is home until a doctor’s note clears them to return to work.
Since the start of COVID-19, the total confirmed cumulative cases is 48. As of today, 21 residents have recovered. We now have two active COVID-positive residents in the building as of today. We had 24 staff members confirmed positive, of whom 16 have recovered and eight are still not cleared to work.
We have updated our mitigations strategies to add:
- We are conducting baseline universal testing for all healthcare staff and residents who previously have not tested positive for COVID 19.
- We are continuing universal testing for staff and residents upon completion of the baseline testing in accordance with testing results and PA Department of Health Guidance.
- We are cohorting residents according COVID-19 status; positive, exposed, and negative in zones within the building.
- Location zones for exposed and positive residents will have a physical barrier to isolate between negative and positive/exposed zones and limit travel between zones.
- We are reeducating all staff on PPE requirements in each zone, including donning and doffing requirements when entering and exiting each individual zone.
A complete list of all COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies is located on our website at JHEP.org.
Although testing is complete, we still have to await guidance from the PA Department of Health on when we can re-open for in-person visits. We know how difficult this is for all of you, so please know we are working on visitation of some sorts and will communicate that when we are able.
