Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania CEO Mark D. Weiner

Mark D. Weiner

Dear Friends and Community:

I’m pleased to introduce myself as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania.  I’m excited to be here and look forward to advancing our organizational Mission and service to the community.

I thank Rabbi Sandhaus for his strong leadership for nearly 40 years and the entire staff which has been committed to high quality and resident-centered care.  I remain most impressed with the work efforts and results of our entire staff and the strong and passionate leadership of our Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

I've been spending my time meeting with internal staff, Board leadership, and a wide range of civic, religious, business, and philanthropic community leadership. I've spent time throughout Scranton as well as Wilkes-Barre and the Poconos to aid in my understanding of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, its affiliated organizations, the older adult marketplace, and the Northeastern Pennsylvania environment.

Why is it Important to Exercise as We Age?

Why is it Important to Exercise as We Age?

We all hope to grow old gracefully. Who wants to think about taking medications, going to the doctors or the aches and pains that may come along with getting old?  There are things we can do to fight the aging process. One of those things is exercise! “Get out and move it, move it!” There are many benefits to exercise…

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

“When you’re smilin’, when your smilin’ the whole world smiles with you.” That catchy tune written by Joe Goodwin, Larry Shay, and Mark Fisher is true. When you smile, it affects others. It is hard not to smile back when someone is flashing a smile at you. The next best thing about smiling is laughing. Laughter has its benefits.  These…

Count me in as a big fan and supporter of the Jewish Home of Eastern PA. I have been familiar with its work and service to the community since I was Mayor of Scranton.

Jim Connors, former Mayor of Scranton

Words cannot express my heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering care provided for my mother during her residency at The Jewish Home.

Donna Mendicino

After touring several nursing homes in the New York area where I live, I made the decision to place my mother in the Jewish Home in Scranton where I was raised.

Wendy Barker, Armonk, NY

I thank Rabbi Sandhaus and the entire staff at the Jewish Home for the excellent care that they provided my mother, Marie Kerrigan, during her stay prior to her passing.

Thomas P. Kerrigan

It is impossible to say thank you for all the love and caring compassion you showed to our mother, Dorothy Bouselli.

Roseann and Vince Arnone

My husband, Jim, has been a resident of the Jewish Home since the spring of 2018. He is on the Memory Care floor.
I can’t turn the clock back to restore Jim to the smart, loving, talented man I married almost fifty years ago. So the Jewish Home is the very best place he can be. He is well-loved and he is well-cared for and he is safe and content. I visit regularly and I see that each resident is always treated with loving warmth, courtesy, and respect. Many of the staff have worked at the Jewish Home for more than fifteen years and regard this work as their calling. Jim’s dementia is the tragedy of our lives. The Jewish Home is the blessing.
